We highly recommend CadFaster for iPad for architects and others who have remote clients and remote jobs as it will invariably serve the project well from design through construction. While the app may not have dozens and dozens of features, it has some key features that nobody has or does well–particularly its ability to offer co-viewing for BIM models across a range of BIM authoring solutions. We look forward to seeing the next iterations of this app for iOS and hope that the company will soon serve an OS X version for the desktop.
MyCadbox, from Finland’s CadFaster, is probably best described as a Dropbox for CAD files, but unlike its competitors it largely shuns the Web for native desktop and mobile apps that it says affords it the ability to share and view much larger 3D models and at a higher frame rate than browser-based technologies allow. In the future, however, it has more ambitious plans to add Evernote-style search features to help unlock the huge amount of metadata potentially associated with 3D files.
Another cloud-based CAD data sharing app? I was skeptical when I heard the announcement. Does the market really need one more competitor in this space? What makes this application unique?
Without going into a full review, I must admit that I am pleasantly surprised. CadFaster, the Finnish company that produced MyCadbox and who have been around the CAD collaboration scene for much longer, has found a niche in the CAD sharing marketplace.
Now includes offline mode.
With the solution, users can open STEP and IGES files anywhere, share files with the click of a button, get immediate feedback through a real-time markup system, and easily find files.

MyCadbox certainly sounds promising, and the whole desktop vs. web app decision will be an interesting one to explore. The team behind this desktop app has clearly put a lot of time into details and features, which should make MyCadbox appealing to all kinds of CAD users. This tool will also help to make design projects more efficient.
