The team in Finland has announced that they have updated their latest offering adding several new features that make sharing CAD files with others easier, more efficient and more useful on mobile devices like Apple’s market-leading tablet device, iPad.
CadFaster has upgraded its online CAD viewer MyCadbox with support for any browser on any platform. Most web-based CAD file viewers use WebGL, which is not supported by Microsoft Internet Explorer and on various mobile platforms. MyCadbox circumvents the need for WebGL with a custom approach to CAD file viewing it calls Web 3D Glimpse.
Here is a quick tutorial guide and a video for MyCadbox iPad app. You can download the app for free from iTunes App Store.

"We think the Gem in this group is CadFaster|Collaborate. The reason is because it is a very fast real-time viewer, co-viewer and multi-party collaboration tool. And it does mark-up and the commenting stays in the cloud saved for reference. We especially like that it works with three of the five dominant BIM authoring apps worldwide: Revit, Microstation and Vectorworks Architect.
If Graphisoft’s ArchiCAD and Gehry Technology’s Digital Project were also included CadFaster would be the only BIM app in the entire market place that handles all five BIM formats equally across its cloud-based platform. We are currently reviewing it and it just works–almost magically well for what it does. And we like what we hear about where this company is going."
"We started in MCAD market. Our first product was CadFaster|QuickStep, which has now been downloaded over 350,000 times since 2010, and we have over 50,000 active users for the free version. QuickStep is an ultra-fast viewer for STEP, IGES, DWG and DXF files.
We have largely neglected these users for the past three years due to our focus on the AEC market. That is about to change as we have just released a new product for our MCAD users. The new product is called MyCadbox."
This podcast covers a new product from the folks over at CadFaster called MyCadbox. This is a new online CAD collaboration service that is works across the desktop and the iPad. Topics covered:
"What would a version of Dropbox customized for CAD users be like? It would probably look like MyCadbox, a cloud-hosted virtual storage space for STEP files. The online product comes from the same company that developed and released CadFaster, a viewing and markup program for CAD users. Like CadFaster, MyCadbox is three complementary offerings — a private storage online, a desktop client app, and a mobile app — that form a single product."
CadFaster this week announced public beta availability of MyCadbox, described as “Dropbox for CAD files” for users in the manufacturing field. The cloud-based collaboration tool is designed to simplify sharing, viewing and coviewing, markup, and tracking of 3D models on mobile devices and desktops.
